Host to hungry Ambattur footballers, retires at 65

Around 2009- 2014, some of the boys from the alumni community used to play football near Ambattur, Chennai. Boys would travel half way across the city to meet up on Saturday mornings. After the game was over, some of them would then carry their make shift boots and their infinite appetite to one particular house to freshen up and eat something. This was a house on High school road and it belonged to Jeyamani Aunty.

Jeyamani Aunty is the mother of Jamin (2002), Jelin (2004), Jason (2006) and Justin (2012)

Although the house was quite packed with four children, the doors were always open for anyone from the alumni. Anybody could just walk in and retreat for some sleep or movie. Aunty never said no.

Aunty used to work in UP as a Christian missionary along with her late husband – Rev. George Isaac. After uncle passed away quite suddenly in Dec 2001, the family moved to Chennai. Jamin and Jelin were in their 12th and 10th when this happened -they were still at school for their extra coaching classes in December.

Aunty has a quiet strength about her. Always hosting friends of her children, she never runs out of patience. To bring up 4 children single handedly and host a whole bunch of hungry boys with the infinite SV appetite, is not an easy task. But she never showed any sign of struggle. She remained cheerful in the face of any adversity.

Today is her retirement from service. She’s completed 65 years of age and the missionary organization is honoring her with a ceremony at Ambattur. There will be a ceremony in the FMPB office this evening.

Happy retirement, Aunty.

P. S – Jamin works in the US, Jelin served in an organisation where she was the voice for several children and helpless people until her marriage. Jason, probably the most popular among the alumni community went back to serve the school as a teacher for a couple of years. Justin who earned a huge fan following as a guitarist in college works in Chennai now.
