The Four Yorkshire Men Sketch – And it’s Relevance to Boarders

As boarders, it’s sometimes easier to romanticize the sufferings/hardships from our childhood days – away from home under the watchful eyes of the warden/housemother, no bathrooms, terrible toilets that often bore evidence from days past, the eagerness with which one pounced on a kadalamittai or fought over it, not to mention the world of punishments and beatings – some of it unfair.

When the tendency to vocalize this emotion is high, pause to watch this brilliant sketch from At Last the 1948 show. It also features two of the Pythons. The sketch satires that emotion that so often comes up in our recollections of childhood, as well as captures the tendency to one-up the previous raconteur in a setting. Enjoy!
